THE COLD RIVER FURNITURE COLLECTION is Peter Maynard's signature line of furniture. The designs are based on his interpretation of the Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau aesthetics, drawing on artistic influences of Scottish Architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the Prairie School, Charles Limbert, as well as the early landscape paintings of Karl Bodmer and George Catlin who both captured the North American landscape in an earlier untrammeled state.

Cold River Collection is more than just a repurposing of the past - it is a vision for the future of the Arts & Crafts Movement inspired by the great North American landscape and in our case, it's vast hardwood forests.

The Cold River Collection developed naturally over the last 35 years as Peter worked on custom commissioned pieces of various styles. While exploring the entire spectrum of furniture making, he grew to appreciate the principles of The Arts & Crafts Movement.

In addition to the broad range of furniture making experience there is, in his work, distinct elements of Chinese and Japanese design and joinery technique. The end result is something uniquely artistic that has balance and resonance.

Although the furniture in this collection is of the highest quality in both materials and craftsmanship, it is meant to be used. It is not for display purposes only but is functional and practical. It is this balance of form and function that creates the enduring beauty of timeless, classic proportions.

Please also note that all of our designs can be built with any domestic hardwood such as quarter sawn white oak, natural cherry, curly maple or walnut in order to best complement your interior.
